Objectives
Developing and employing non-invasive spectroscopic and spectral analysis:
- To quantify the moisture content and distribution in paper and parchment artworks by a non-invasive multimodal approach probing both molecular and structural properties (NIR hyperspectral imaging, NMR-relaxometry, THz spectroscopy imaging).
- Extract molecular-level information on the state of water (i. e. H-bonding involvement, spatial confinement) correlated with mechanochemical properties by spatially-resolved imaging spectroscopy.
Goals
- Improvement of the knowledge on the water interactions and moisture absorption processes in paper and parchment-based artworks.
- Non-invasive approaches to map water distribution and its physical state on paper and parchment-based artworks
- Protocols to prevent water-driven degradation processes.
- Protocols to monitor water-based cleaning procedures.
