About CNR
CNR is the largest public research institution in Italy under the Ministry of Education, University and Research. CNR includes seven departments organized in 91 institutes performing multidisciplinary research activities and ensure large and effective European and International cooperation in all fields of knowledge. CNR takes part in UNCHANGE project with the Institute of Chemical Sciences and Technologies (CNR-SCITEC) and the Institute of Heritage Science (CNR ISPC). SCITEC and ISPC have consolidated expertise in the field of heritage material science, conservation and scientific research on degradation mechanisms of cultural heritage materials.
Leader in the application of noninvasive analytical methods to CH materials with competence in development of portable point-based and imaging systems, SCITEC participates to the activity of the European research Infrastructure for Heritage Science as a part of the Italian National Node, coordinated by CNR-ISPC, through the Mobile LABoratory (MOLAB) and FIXed LABoratory (FIXLAB) platforms.
CNR-SCITEC operates with fix and mobile laboratories where currently 4 full-time researchers, 4 PhD students and two post doc researchers are employed. The mobile laboratory-MOLAB is equipped with state of the art single-point analytical methods and advanced hyperspectral systems ranging from X-rays to mid-infrared. The fix laboratory is equipped with advanced analytical methods for the macro to micro-scale mechanochemical investigation of CH materials and degradation mechanisms. CNR SCITEC will benefit of the fruitful collaboration with CNR ISPC, its facilities and its excellence in experimental sciences, digital heritage, and conservation science. CNR SCITEC and ISPC have its representatives in the board of PhD doctoral school in Chemical Sciences at Perugia University and in the National PhD doctoral school in Heritage Science.
